TUITION:
(Please contact me for current rates)
Tuition can be payed by semester or by monthly payments. For the school year there are ten monthly equal payments due. (Aug-May) For the semester payments there are two equal payments due (Aug and May). The monthly tuition remains the same for each month, regardless of the number of lessons scheduled or received during that month. Payment is due by the 5th of each month. Payment can be made in the form of cash, Pay Pal, credit card or personal check made out to Melanie Hawley.
There are 33 weeks of scheduled instruction which includes private lessons, group lessons, and recitals. The student is only charged for 28 weeks of instruction. The student will receive 2 free lessons to be used in the event a student must miss a lesson. If the student does not miss, these are 2 free lessons for the student. The schedule also includes three “Flex Weeks” for the teacher to be used at any time during the year in case of illness, family emergency, etc.
Group lessons may occasionally be held each school year and are held in lieu of the private lesson on group weeks (unless you have a Monday lesson, you could have both in order to help compensate for Monday holidays). In group, we discuss composition techniques, study composers / music history, perform, practice ear training skills and play music games that reinforce music theory concepts. Group lessons are one of the highlights of the studio experience.
Summer Tuition will be paid in monthly payments, accommodating the number of lessons you will be taking. The summer session will be June-July. Attending lessons during the summer is strongly suggested. If a student chooses to not take during the summer they will not have priority scheduling in the fall.
ADDITIONAL FEES:
Music, Lesson Books and Activity Fees will be billed separately and are due with the next month’s tuition.
Any borrowed music from the music library that is not returned or is returned damaged will be charged to the student at its replacement cost.
SUPPLIES:
Please provide a spiral notebook for written reminders and assignments for at-home practice. Each student is responsible for bringing his or her books to each lesson and for keeping them clean and undamaged.
All students must have a piano or digital piano for home practice. The quality of your student’s home instrument plays a significant role in their potential for success.
Acoustic pianos should be tuned at least once a year, and kept in working order. If you prefer a digital piano, please invest in a full-size keyboard (88 keys) with weighted, touch-sensitive keys and pedals.
ATTENDANCE:
Please be on time to arrive (no more than 2 minutes early) and depart on time from your lesson. Late arrivals will result in shorter lessons, as I will end the lesson on time.
In the event you cannot make a lesson there are several options:
- You may request an online lesson (Zoom/Facetime/Skype/Google Meet) or practice video option. (Recorded and emailed). Please inform me in advance if you cannot attend.
- Lesson swap: If you cannot make your scheduled lesson, you may use the lessons swap list to switch lesson times with another student. The parent who requested the exchange is responsible to email or call me within 24 hours to let me know what has been worked out. If two families show up for the same lesson time because the exchange was not confirmed properly, priority will go to the normally scheduled student(s) with no refund or rescheduling for the other student(s).
A make-up lesson will be provided if 24 hours’ notice of absence has been made or an emergency exists such as illness, accident, etc. The two free lessons must be used first before requesting a make-up. A make-up lesson must be scheduled within two weeks of the missed lesson or the lesson is your forfeit. A maximum of one make-up lesson will be given per semester.
If I cannot be at a lesson, I will use my flex weeks first. If more are needed, a make-up lesson will be scheduled.
PRACTICE TIMES:
Practice is expected to have the same priority as homework. In order to progress satisfactory, daily practice is absolutely essential. To develop-self-discipline and good working habits, a regular time should be set aside each day. All students are expected to practice five days per week. Goal oriented and regular practice is crucial in order for a student to progress.
TERMINATION:
Please give at least a month’s notice if you wish to terminate lessons. If a student payed by semester and quits mid-semester the remaining tuition will be refunded.
The student will be terminated if full monthly payments are not received regularly in a timely fashion.
